This photo shows handlebar controls. The MAB design uses an engine that powers an automatic transmission for speeds of 0-30 mph on flat ground and has no manual gearshift. A top speed 42 mph was gained downhill while pedaling and at full throttle!

This motor assited bicycle (MAB) design uses a 49 cc 4-stroke gas engine with less then 2 brake horse power (a measure at the rear wheel on CR-1's dyno) to meet the legal restrictions of the State of Michigan (where the MAB will be used).

The human pedal power drivetrain is 100% independent of engine and it's transmission. It can be used concurrently (or not at all) with the engine so that a rider can still pedal the bicycle but extend carry load, range, and speed with the engine.

This photo shows cargo carry capacity and with side bags alone the MAB can carry about 6 bags of groceries or 100 lbs of other items.

A .6 gallon (84 oz) steel gas tank is located behind the seatpost. Tenitively speaking, fuel usage by the engine is estimated to be around 150-180 mpg, although this rating will be more precise once more tests are averaged into this figure.

A 205 mm disc brake in the front provides solid stoping power. The next steps in development are to add a lightweight horn, rear brake light and front light for a street legal application.

Induction of the engine was improved by custom fabrication and installation of a ram-air intake design which uses the dynamic air pressure created by the MAB's motion to increase air-mass flow into the engine resulting in improved power.

A custom built exhaust system was fabricated and installed on the MAB to be quiet and also improve efficiency and speed. This picture shows a custom manufactured tuned muffler which is part of the exhaust performance pipe.
